They are arranged in chronological order in carpetas for the various series. All the groups indicated are present. Items (c) and (d) below occupy half of the legajo. The documents are arranged in carpetas, in the order given below, the material relating to the United States being in the first twelve carpetas. (a) Reales Ordenes Reservadas -Ministerio de la Guerra. 1801, Feb. 23-1811, July 20. Letters of Josef Antonio de Caballero and José de Heredia, ministers of war, to Marqués de Someruelos as captain general of Louisiana and the Floridas. Subjects treated: 1803, defense of Louisiana. (b) Oficios-Reservado-Ministerio de la Guerra. 1800, Jan. 22-1811, Sept. 20. Drafts of Someruelos as captain general of Louisiana and the Floridas to the ministers of war, reservada nos. 1-22; no. 14 used three times. Subjects treated: 1800, Bowles, his capture of San Marcos de Apalache; reconquest of Apalache; conflict of authority between Gayoso de Lemos and Juan Ventura Morales; designs of England on Louisiana; 1802, cession of Louisiana to France; 1806, money and supplies sent to St. Augustine; 1808, situado of East Florida; movements of American troops on the frontier. Subjects treated: 1799, Bowles, made agent of England among the Indians; Jones not admitted as consul at New Orleans; 1800, Bowles; reconquest of Apalache; 1802, suspension of the right of deposit at New Orleans; 1803, sale of Louisiana to the United States; 1804, transfer of Louisiana to France and the United States; pretensions of the United States to West Florida; 1807, limits of the province of Louisiana; insurrection in West Florida; 1808, navigation of the Mobile River by the United States; insurrection in West Florida; 1809, movement of United States troops; 1811, suspension of the transit duties collected on United States goods, at the port of Mobile; dis turbances in West Florida. Subjects treated: 1801, Ramon Lopez y Angulo, intendant of Louisiana, removed for marrying without permission; 1806, project for free trade for West Florida; sale of land to foreigners forbidden.
